Words of Encouragement

Rachel Terrazas Empowermental Therapy Utah

I’m Rachel, a psychotherapist with a curious and caring soul. I love to listen to understand people and help them figure out what is holding them back.

I will help you face your barriers with compassion and the confidence that comes when you know someone is on your side. I will sort it out with you. I will laugh with you, cry with you, and be frustrated with you at the crap that sucks. And ultimately, I will help you gain the tools and strength to overcome what holds you back from the life you seek.

I am a licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CMHC), EMDR trained, in Provo, Utah. Building Empowermental Therapy and connecting with clients in this extremely personal and vulnerable space is such an honor to me. I love my work.

  • How can I use my insurance for therapy?

I can provide a "super bill" that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Please verify in advance, considering your deductible, the number of sessions covered, the types of sessions covered, any session limits, and if pre-authorization is required.

  • Why don't you take insurance?

Insurance companies often dictate the length of treatment, require diagnoses, and demand confidential information, such as therapy notes. In my practice, I choose to operate free from these restrictions, offering treatment without placing a diagnosis on your permanent health record. This allows me to maintain complete confidentiality, except for legal and ethical exceptions. You may still be able to get your insurance to pay with submitting a superbill, which I can provide.

  • What are additional payment support options you do take?

In addition to credit cards, Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) can often be used. You can use them directly with a card, connect them through your Venmo, or submit a receipt for reimbursement. I also accept ecclesiastical aid and employee assistance program (EAP) payment.

  • What are your rates?

    $150 - 45 min session

    $180 - 55 min initial intake appointment

    $300 - 90 min session

  • What do you not provide?

I do not specialize in the following areas and recommend seeking a specialist for: testing, pre-surgery or pre-LDS mission evaluations, forensic evaluations, disability assessments, custody cases, and substance abuse treatment. For all other needs, we can determine if we are a good fit during a free consultation call. Send me a message to get one on the schedule. I look forward to hearing from you.

  • What will my first session entail?

We will discuss confidentiality and policies, review your background and family history, medical history, and current medications, and develop a treatment plan that includes setting goals.

  • What will therapy be like?

Each session is unique and tailored to the individual client. I work at the client's pace, whether that means a few sessions focused on providing tools and education, addressing a pivotal life event, or a longer process of unpacking past traumas or long-standing challenges. Regardless of the situation, I collaborate with clients to determine their overall objectives and set measurable goals. I provide support, education, skill coaching, encouragement, and compassion. Most importantly, it is your session, and your priorities are the focus. My aim is for you to feel empowered during each session.

  • What are the benefits of teletherapy?

    1. Convenience: Teletherapy can be done during a lunch break, saving travel time, and allowing clients to have their children nearby, which is especially helpful with a little baby. 2. Effectiveness: Studies show that teletherapy is just as effective as in-person sessions. 3. Accessibility: Clients from all over the state can choose a therapist they connect with, rather than being limited to local options.

  • How do I get started?

Send me an email or give me a call to set up a consultation and see if we are a good fit. If we are, we will schedule a session or add you to the cancellation/wait list. You will then receive a link to your client portal, where you can sign and submit the necessary paperwork and access our video calls.

  • What will be kept confidential?

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) protects personal health information from being shared. However, there are exceptions where information can be disclosed without consent: 1. Suspected past or present abuse of children, elderly, or disabled persons. 2. If there is reason to believe a client is in danger of seriously harming themselves, others, or property. 3. A subpoena by a judge requiring the release of information.

  • Do you prescribe medication?

No, I am not licensed to prescribe medication. However, I can refer you to licensed medication professionals and coordinate with your current provider.

  • How long will I need therapy?

The frequency and duration of therapy vary by client, depending on specific issues, ongoing problems, deep-seated trauma, or personal development. Our problems took time to develop, and they take time to heal.
